What's Being Done
Dublin colleges are encouraging homeowners to rent rooms to students through homestays or digs, which can help reduce accommodation costs and give students another option outside the private rental market. Students can also use a wide range of accommodation search tools, including Daft.ie, Rent.ie, Dublin Nest, International Student Accommodation, Student House, Fresh Student Living, College Cribs, Mezzino Student Living, TU Dublin’s Studentpad, and UCD’s AccommodationPad.
Facebook groups are also widely used to search for rooms and shared housing. In addition, students are advised to inspect properties carefully and check extra costs such as electricity, heating, and broadband before agreeing to a tenancy. Support is also available through tenant protections under the Residential Tenancies Act 2004, while the Union of Students in Ireland provides guidance on tenant rights and responsibilities, and college students’ unions can offer further advice
